..."Over the next three weeks - you guessed it - the numbness in my right leg did not disappear.  In fact, it got worse, even spreading to my left leg.  I was certain that this was going to be a self-limited process that would go away on its own with no lasting effects.  So when my tongue, bottom lip, and the entire left side of my face went numb, I kept working.  When I couldn’t remember the lyrics to my favorite songs or sing along in the car without getting tongue-tied, I figured I just had too much on my mind.  When my vision got blurry and I had trouble merging into traffic when driving, I thought it was simple fatigue from long hospital hours.  You would think that limping through halls and having to hold onto walls for balance would set off an alarm in my head, but I didn’t take action until my mother and brother heard of my symptoms and urged me to visit my doctor"...

 What's going on here? How did this young person get into this situation?

..."What was the most difficult part of the application/admission process for you?        Dealing with fear. Fear that my grades and board scores would void all of the hard work I did during medical school, and prevent me from moving forward in my career.  I actually liked writing my personal statement and putting the whole application together – that part wasn’t so difficult. As I went through it all though, making it as presentable and appealing as I could, the reality of getting into residency started to sink in. I had decided to pursue obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN), which at that time, was very popular. Lots of people were going into that field, and that introduced a lot of anxiety. I had dreamt big, and silently dealt with major concerns about how things would turn out for me"...
